It signals that you respect the democratic process. It signals that you understand that elections are won through ideas and not intimidation.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The association’s chairman also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, to ensure that the election was transparent and credible, while urging security agencies to protect lives and property before, during and after the poll.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In a goodwill message delivered by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peaceful and credible elections across the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the governor, “Our belief is simply that no political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen and no office is more valuable than the life of a single man, woman or child.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Representatives of the participating political parties also addressed the summit, pledging to comply with electoral laws and contribute to a peaceful and credible governorship election.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Fourteen political parties are expected to field candidates in the August 15 governorship election. Governor Adeleke is contesting for another term on the Accord platform, while Bola Oyebamiji represents the APC and Najeem Salaam is the candidate of the ADC.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The summit formed part of broader efforts by civil society organisations and election stakeholders to promote peaceful conduct, democratic accountability and electoral integrity ahead of the forthcoming Osun Democracy becomes stronger when voters actively participate in the electoral process. Kabiru Musa, sentenced the defendant to 15 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N500,000 fine for the offence of incest.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>For the offence of criminal intimidation, the court sentenced Sylvester to 10 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N250,000 fine, whilst for the offence of assault, the court sentenced the defendant to five years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The court, explaining that the sentences shall run consecutively, further pronounced that the defendant has the constitutional right of appeal against the judgment to the High Court of Adamawa State within the next 30 days.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The judge said the most disturbing part of the case was the testimony of the victim that the defendant habitually intimidated and forced her into sexual intercourse whenever he desired.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Having carefully considered the statement of complaint, the unequivocal plea of guilty entered by the defendant, the oral testimony of the victim in corroboration thereof, and the entire record before the court, I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved the offences charged beyond reasonable doubt as required by law,” the judge said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“A plea of guilty, once voluntarily made and corroborated where necessary, constitutes the strongest evidence against an accused person. He noted that a permanent naval presence would enhance surveillance, prevent criminal activities and improve overall security in the area.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Kefas added that the proposed Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Katsina.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said the suspect, popularly known as “Dunbuje”, was arrested on July 15, at about 5 p.m., by operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Funtua.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the police spokesperson, the success was recorded following credible intelligence.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Sadiq-Aliyu explained that the operatives trailed the suspect before apprehending him, adding that an immediate search led to the recovery of 500 tablets of the illicit drug, D5.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect specialised in supplying the drugs to suspected armed bandits and other criminal elements operating in Funtua and neighbouring communities, thereby aiding their criminal activities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the suspect is in police custody while investigations continue to unravel his distribution network, identify his source of supply and arrest other accomplices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The PPRO noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ali Umar-Fage, commended the operatives for their area of Birnin Kebbi.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama reported that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Birnin Kebbi received a distress call at about 1:13am, from Alhaji Uwaisu Saad of Ubandoman Kebbi, alerting security operatives to the incident.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that the DPO mobilised a joint security team comprising police operatives, personnel of the 36 Police Mobile Force, officers of the Operations Department, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, and local vigilantes to the scene.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“According to the sources, the suspected kidnappers fled into a nearby bush on sighting the advancing security operatives, abandoning their mission,” the report stated.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama added that
