ABUJA — THE National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside the country following his first year in office.
The party, in a statement signed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy, said the vacation was aimed at allowing Yilwatda to rest, reflect and re-strategise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, Yilwatda’s first year as national chairman has been marked by extensive party engagements, consultations, travels and strategic activities aimed at strengthening the APC.
It said the chairman had worked with members of the National Working Committee (NWC), governors, National Assembly members, state party structures, elected officials and other stakeholders to strengthen the party.
The statement also listed the successful organisation of the APC National Convention, strengthening of the party’s internal structures and the conduct of primary elections at various levels as some of the achievements recorded under his leadership.
It said the vacation was not a disengagement from party affairs, but an opportunity for the national chairman to take a brief break from his schedule and reflect on the responsibilities ahead.
Yilwatda is also expected to use the period to prepare for the forthcoming NWC retreat, which will review the party’s activities, identify emerging challenges and develop strategies for the months ahead.
“The National Chairman will also utilise the period of respite to reflect on the next phase of the party’s development and put finishing touches to the design and planning of the forthcoming National Working Committee Retreat,” the statement said.
The APC said the retreat would help improve coordination within the NWC and strengthen the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
It added that Yilwatda’s absence from the country would not affect the operations of the party, as the NWC would continue to discharge its responsibilities in accordance with the APC constitution and established procedures.
The national chairman is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements.
