Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi
The immediate past Commissioner for Special Duties and Rural Development in Bauchi State, Hon Faruk Mustapha, has been nominated as the gubernatorial running mate for the 2027 general election.
He is to run on a joint gubernatorial election ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State with the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN.
Speaking to journalists, Faruk Mustapha, who resigned his membership of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in May after he was denied the gubernatorial ticket of the party said, “Yes, I have been nominated as the gubernatorial running mate and I have accepted the nomination.
“It is a call to service and I can’t reject such a call. The people know our capabilities and decided to trust us with the responsibility of leadership. We will not fail them.”
He described the gubernatorial candidate, Abubakar, as the best person to lead the state considering his vast experience both politically and administratively, having served as governor for four years in the past.
“It is only fair to allow him come back to complete the good things he started as governor. He knows exactly what to do because he is not a new comer to the job,” he said.
Mustapha, the Director-General of the Campaign Organisation of Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in 2023 general elections expressed optimism that the APC would win the 2027 general election at all levels considering the progress that has been made since 2023.
State Organizing Secretary of APC, Sallau Kafi, had earlier disclosed that the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, MA Abubakar and the leadership of the party had submitted the name and particulars of Mustapha as the running mate to INEC for uploading.
