The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats contested in Saturday’s Yobe State local government elections, according to the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission.
The commission also declared APC candidates winners in 176 of the 178 councillorship seats contested across the state.
The Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, Ibrahim Yabani, announced the results on Sunday after the conclusion of voting, counting, collation and verification of results.
“A total of 10 political parties participated in this democratic exercise, fielding candidates for the chairmanship positions across the 17 LGAs as well as the councillorship seats across the 178 wards.”
”This robust participation reflects how keenly contested the elections were in several local government areas in the state,” he said.
He added that the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and All Peoples Party (APP) won councillor seats in Fune and Karasuwa local government areas.
The chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Committee in the State, Umar Jajere, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election.
“This is the hallmark of a true democrat. We thank you for creating an enabling environment that allows IPAC and all parties to operate without fear or favour.
Certificates of return would be distributed to the winners in a later date before their swearing-in.
