The All Progressives Congress (APC) has told the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Senator David Mark, to resolve its internal leadership crisis rather than blame the ruling party and the judiciary for its legal troubles.
The APC accused the opposition party of adopting double standards in its reactions to court judgments, saying it celebrates the judiciary when decisions favour it but accuses the ruling party of collusion when rulings go against it.
The party described the ADC’s position as “the habitual folly of a vessel of a party scuttled by its own pirate leaders”.
In a statement on Friday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the Federal High Court judgment in Abuja, which sacked the Mark-led leadership of the ADC and nullified its official activities, including primary election processes and outcomes, was a consequence of the opposition party’s own actions.
Justice Peter Lifu had, in the judgment, ruled against the Mark-led leadership following a legal challenge instituted by aggrieved national officers of the ADC.
Morka said the APC had no involvement in the dispute, stressing that the case was an internal party matter between ADC leaders.
He accused Mark and his allies of taking over the party’s leadership in violation of its internal democracy and the rule of law to advance former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.
“The case resulted from a legal challenge brought by ADC national officers victimised by the bare-faced heist of the party’s leadership by David Mark and his co-pirates to satisfy Atiku Abubakar’s quixotic presidential ambition,” he said.
The APC spokesman argued that the opposition party was now blaming others for the consequences of what he described as its “reckless political misadventure”.
He also faulted the ADC for questioning the authority and independence of the judiciary whenever court decisions did not favour its leadership.
“In their warped reckoning, only courts and judges that side with them are worthy, while those that rule differently are a menace to society. That is senselessness in the extreme,” Morka said.
He advised the ADC to appeal the judgment if dissatisfied with it, rather than engage in what he called partisan attacks against the APC or make threats capable of inciting anarchy.
Morka further described the ADC as a party unfit to govern Nigeria, arguing that a political organisation unable to resolve its internal problems could not successfully lead the country.
He, however, reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to protecting democracy, upholding the rule of law and delivering good governance under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
