The Founder and General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has signed an employment agreement with an oil company in Saudi Arabia, facilitating the recruitment of more than 300 Nigerians.
Chinyere disclosed this on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, saying interviews were ongoing in Nigeria to recruit more Nigerians for employment in the Saudi Arabian oil industry.
He said his intervention was driven by concern over the growing number of unemployed youths in the country and his desire to contribute to efforts to reduce unemployment.
According to him, the government cannot tackle the country’s challenges alone, prompting his decision to support efforts in job creation, healthcare, education, housing and skills acquisition.
“It is part of my humanitarian effort to support our teeming jobless youths by creating jobs for them to reduce unemployment in Nigeria.
“Our government cannot do it alone. I have a firm resolve to support our government in the areas of job creation, health, education, housing support and skills acquisition,” he said.
The cleric said the beneficiaries of the Saudi Arabian employment initiative were selected across religious and ethnic lines, noting that Muslims were among those recruited.
He also said some beneficiaries were children of police officers who died in active service and had previously received international university scholarships through his ministry.
Chinyere explained that all the successful candidates underwent specialised oil-related training to qualify for the jobs, stressing that they were recruited as skilled workers and not cleaners.
He said most of the beneficiaries received training in pipe fabrication, machining, payloader operation, bulldozer operation, side-boom operation and structural fitting.
The cleric also highlighted the role of OPM’s multi-skills acquisition centre in preparing Nigerians for employment opportunities in the oil and gas industry.
The centre, which he said was built through tithes and offerings, offers professional training in pipeline welding, argon welding, scaffolding, oil rigging operations, instrumentation and control, and marine engineering, among other specialised fields.
On healthcare, Chinyere said his ministry operated two free specialist hospitals in Port Harcourt and Abia State, providing services to vulnerable Nigerians irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.
He listed the services as free registration, antenatal care, medical tests, drugs, caesarean sections and specialist treatment, saying the initiative was established partly to help reduce maternal mortality.
He further said the ministry had established 46 tuition-free schools across several states, including an all-girls free technical college in Port Harcourt and a school for children with autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome.
According to him, the educational initiatives were aimed at expanding access to learning and addressing the challenge of out-of-school children.
On housing, Chinyere said OPM had built 19 free estates to accommodate homeless and stranded Nigerians.
He added that more than 64 families who returned from South Africa following xenophobic attacks were among those provided with free accommodation.
