There is nothing we can do but to pray to God to give the family the fortitude to bear this great loss,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>Also speaking at the occasion, Governor Okpebholo, admonished Nigerians to live selfless life.\u003Cbr>The governor urged Nigerians, particularly those in positions of authority, to live a sacrificial life and use their positions to make society a better place for all.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>The governor, in an emotional voice, said the death of Orbih had reminded him of the uncertainty of life and the need for people to make meaningful contributions to society while they were alive.\u003Cbr>He recalled that his first visit to the church was to celebrate Orbih’s birthday and expressed sadness that he had returned to the same venue to attend his funeral mass.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>“Today, it has dawned on me that there is nothing in life, here lies in the casket the remains of Chief Dan Osi Orbih and he can’t stand up or walk anymore,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>Okpebholo urged Nigerians, especially public office holders, to make life meaningful for others, noting that wealth, positions and other achievements could not change the reality of death.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>He also thanked Wike for standing by Orbih’s family during the difficult period.\u003Cbr>In his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Dunia, urged the congregation and Nigerians to reflect on the transient nature of life and the inevitability of death.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>Dunia said titles, academic difficult for former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, running mate to the African Democratic Congress ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to campaign in Rivers State if he continues to attack President Bola Tinubu and his supporters.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wike spoke on Friday in Abuja after a meeting with the chairmen of the six area councils of the FCT. He was reacting to comments credited to Amaechi, who allegedly said only thieves and mad people would vote for Tinubu.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“If he continues this line, it will be difficult for him to campaign in Rivers. We will not take that. If security agencies and INEC can fold their hands, that’s their business, but we will not allow it,” Wike said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wike said the remarks were aired on television, and that they went further to include Edo people.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“All of us watched on television yesterday where he said it’s only thieves that can vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, only mad people can vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and that if Edo people vote for him, it means Edo people are mad. This is supposedly a vice presidential candidate of a political party seeking to take over power,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The minister said agencies such as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC should sanction politicians who engage in personality attacks instead of issue-based campaigns.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“You see one problem we have in this country is that agencies or commissions should be able to take their functions seriously. Many Nigerians have called INEC to sanction political parties, candidates, or some politicians who, in their campaigns, incite the public or raise matters that are not issue-based,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wike then challenged Amaechi to account for projects executed while he was governor of Rivers State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“I have challenged him to tell Nigerians where is our $39 million cassava flour mill which you claimed you built? But excuse yourself if you are not part of the union, so you don’t participate,” the minister said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He added that the administration would implement the no-work, no-pay policy, arguing that the government had addressed the demands presented by labour.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We have no issues with them at all, and they cannot tell the public that issues we have raised have not been addressed. Everything we have, we implement,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The minister questioned the rationale behind the strike, maintaining that the administration could not understand why workers would embark on industrial action despite what he described as efforts to resolve their grievances.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Wike further alleged that the FCT NLC chairman was pursuing a political agenda linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The allegation places the dispute beyond the immediate labour demands.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) declared an indefinite strike on Wednesday directing workers in both the public and private sectors to shut down schools, hospitals, government offices and other establishments across the territory.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The declaration came after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the FCT Administration (FCTA) over unresolved issues concerning teachers’ promotions.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The labour council accused the FCTA of failing to adequately address its demands, the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Adams Oshiomhole were among the prominent politicians present when the remains of former Vice Chairman South -South of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daniel Orbih, were on Saturday laid to rest in his home town, Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking at the funeral service held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ogbona, Governor Okpebholo tasked Nigerians, particularly those in positions of authority, to live selfless and sacrificial lives and use their positions to make society a better place for all.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor, in an emotional voice, said the death of Orbih had reminded him of the uncertainty of life and the need for people to make meaningful contributions to society while they are alive.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He recalled that his first visit to the church was to celebrate Orbih’s birthday and expressed sadness that he had returned to the same venue to attend his funeral.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“This is my second time coming to this Church. The first time I came here was to come celebrate with Chief Dan Osi Orbih. I said to him, we will be coming here like this in the next eight years to celebrate your birthday but today we are here for a different purpose.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Today, it has dawned on me that there is nothing in life; here lies in the casket the remains of Chief Dan Osi Orbih and he can’t stand up or walk anymore,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wike, in his remarks, said the funeral activities had reinforced the reality of death and the pain of losing a close friend.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“When I saw the casket, it dawned on me that truly my friend and brother is gone. There is nothing we can do but to pray to God to give the family the fortitude to bear this great loss,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Nigerians deserve facts, not another episode of political name-calling,” the party said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The party also expressed concern over the reported warning that Amaechi would find it difficult to campaign in Rivers State, describing the statement as a potential threat to the rights of opposition politicians.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It called on security agencies to pay attention to the remarks and ensure that all political parties and candidates could exercise their rights peacefully and without intimidation.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The ADC further questioned whether Wike’s comments were consistent with the responsibilities of his office as minister of the FCT, urging him to focus on governance and allow political parties to pursue their activities within the law.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Reaffirming its commitment to the electoral process, the party said it was focused on presenting Nigerians with an alternative platform for accountable leadership.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It maintained that the people of Rivers State should be free to choose their preferred leaders without fear or undue interference.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Rivers State is not anybody’s inheritance. Democracy is not a private franchise.
