Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the train accident along the Warri–Itakpe railway corridor near Agbor in Delta State, which reportedly claimed the lives of some passengers and left many others injured.

In a statement shared on X, Atiku said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy and offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment and wish them strength in this difficult time,” he said.

He also sympathised with the people and government of Delta State and praised the swift response of emergency workers and rescuers.

Atiku described the incident as “a sobering reminder of the urgent need to strengthen safety standards and emergency preparedness across our transportation system.”
