I was invited to expatiate on the position that my brother bishops took when we went to visit the president of the country,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Onaiyekan said the controversy surrounding the interview was not necessarily caused by his comments but by the response from people associated with the government.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“I think the main reason was because — I don’t know what pushed them — some of what they call the attack dogs of the government went out of their ways to make certain statements that were not helpful even for government,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the comments provoked Nigerians and triggered further public discussion, while he chose not to respond again.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cardinal also recalled telling Aniagolu that Tinubu was unhappy with the bishops’ message during their meeting, but said they had not expected the president to welcome their concerns.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the bishops did not visit the president to praise his administration or flatter him, but to communicate the concerns of Nigerians.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We were not expecting Mr President to be happy with us. We knew he was not going to be happy with what we were saying, but we felt that we don’t have to be going there to make him happy when Nigerians, in the vast majority, are not happy,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Onaiyekan blamed the country’s leadership for failing to heed advice, arguing that the realities confronting Nigerians were widely reported in the media.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“There is no governor, unless we have a president who is deaf, dumb, and blind, who can tell us that he’s not hearing the truth about what is happening in Nigeria,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He questioned whether government policies could be considered successful if citizens continued to suffer, insisting that their impact should be measured by improvements in people’s daily lives, particularly those of the poorest.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The proof of its validity must be seen in the life, daily life of the people, and especially of the poorest,” he added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp >\u003C\u002Fdiv>\n\u003Cp>The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance (CCSOGG) has called for an evidence-based assessment of surveillance contracts for pipelines in the Niger Delta, as it called on stakeholders to avoid claims that are not verified, which are capable of undermining critical national security operations.\u003Cbr>The coalition kicked against allegations surrounding the value and performance of\u003Cbr>the Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) and its Project Director, Osahon Okunbo, as it relates to the company’s pipeline surveillance contract.\u003Cbr>A statement issued by the group’s spokesman, Comrade Declan Ihekaire, said legitimate questions about government contracts should be addressed through official documents and verifiable evidence rather than unsubstantiated claims.\u003Cbr>According to the coalition, it has followed with serious concern the renewed controversy surrounding pipeline surveillance contracts in the Niger Delta, particularly the allegations being circulated against Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) and its Project Director, Mr. Osahon Okunbo.\u003Cbr>“We consider it necessary to speak at this time, not because legitimate questions about public contracts should be suppressed, but because public accountability must be based on facts, documents and verifiable evidence, not sensational allegations capable of damaging reputations, destabilising communities and undermining critical national security operations.\u003Cbr>“The Coalition therefore rejects, in its entirety, the attempt to portray PINL and Mr. Osahon Okunbo as beneficiaries of some fictitious ₦2.7 trillion personal pipeline surveillance arrangement.\u003Cbr>The group said further, “If there are questions about government expenditure, the appropriate response is for the relevant authorities to publish the contracts, payment schedules, scope of work and performance records and allow Nigerians to interrogate them. What is unacceptable is the circulation of figures without documentary evidence and the subsequent use of such figures to blackmail individuals”, the group said.\u003Cbr>“We are particularly concerned that a figure of ₦2.7 trillion has been publicly associated with PINL and Mr. Osahon Okunbo.” It said.\u003Cbr>“As at today, no credible documentary evidence has been publicly produced establishing that PINL receives ₦2.7 trillion annually for pipeline surveillance. Indeed, recent reports on the controversy have equally noted the absence of publicly presented contract or payment records supporting that allegation.\u003Cbr>“The Coalition is therefore demanding a simple standard:\u003Cbr>If the allegation is true, let the document be produced.\u003Cbr>If it is not true, those responsible for spreading it must have the courage and responsibility to correct the record”, it said.\u003Cbr>It is dangerous to casually attach such an enormous figure to a named individual, particularly when that individual is involved in a sensitive national security assignment. Such allegations can expose the person, his family, employees and communities associated with the operation to unnecessary hostility and security risks.\u003Cbr>“We have also examined available information surrounding the PINL arrangement and wish to make clear that the figure being bandied about in the public space should not be confused with the actual value of the contract attributed to PINL.\u003Cbr>“The Coalition’s understanding is that the PINL contract is in the region of ₦150 billion, and certainly not the ₦2.7 trillion figure being irresponsibly attributed to the company or its leadership. We challenge anyone who has documentary evidence to the contrary to publish it”, the coalition said.\u003Cbr>It further noted that “This distinction is important because a government contract is not automatically the personal income of the individuals managing the company. A contract value covers personnel, equipment, logistics, security operations, technology, subcontractors, community engagement and other operational obligations.\u003Cbr>“It is therefore intellectually dishonest to take a corporate contract figure, whatever it may be, and present it as money personally collected by an individual.”\u003Cbr>The coalition said available information suggested that the figure being circulated should not be confused with the actual value of the contract attributed to PINL, which it put at about N150 billion.\u003Cbr>It stressed, however, that contract values should not be equated with personal income, noting that such agreements typically cover personnel, equipment, logistics, security operations, technology, community engagement and other operational expenses.\u003Cbr>The group urged the federal government and relevant agencies to assess pipeline surveillance contractors based on measurable performance, including reduction in vandalism, protection of crude oil production, community relations, technology deployment and value for money.\u003Cbr>It said PINL is responsible for surveillance operations along the Eastern Corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline, covering parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia and Imo states.\u003Cbr>The coalition cited figures attributed to the company indicating a significant reduction in pipeline infractions and vandalism attempts compared with previous years.\u003Cbr>It also referred to reports by PINL that there had been no reported pipeline vandalism on sections of the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bayelsa and the wider corridor during a period under review, attributing the development to collaboration among the company, security agencies and host communities.\u003Cbr>The group said such claims should be independently assessed by relevant government authorities.\u003Cbr>It also highlighted the reported involvement of traditional rulers, youth leaders, women and other community stakeholders in pipeline surveillance activities.\u003Cbr>According to the coalition, PINL’s operations cover about 215 communities along the Eastern Corridor, while the company has also reported engaging thousands of youths in surveillance and related activities.\u003Cbr>The group said community participation was important to the protection of oil and gas infrastructure, particularly in areas characterised by difficult terrain and extensive waterways.\u003Cbr>The coalition also commended the reported deployment of technology in pipeline surveillance, including drones, surveillance stations, security vessels, mobile response units and round-the-clock monitoring.\u003Cbr>It said Nigeria needed to strengthen the use of technology and intelligence alongside conventional security arrangements to protect critical oil and gas infrastructure.\u003Cbr>The coalition further urged the federal government to conduct independent assessments of all contractors before deciding whether existing arrangements should be retained, reviewed or says its decision is informed by the need to promote peace, unity and development in Rivers State, while pledging to work with the coalition and support its candidates across the state’s 23 local government areas and wards.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The party’s State Chairman, Dumbari Nwigbarato, made the position known while announcing the party’s endorsement in Port Harcourt, on behalf of himself From Dele Momodu, Humphrey Nwosu, the cowardly umpire, MKO himself, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, to the Americans who saw MKO die and a host of others, including President Tinubu starring as a fiery June 12 activist.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>General Ibrahim Babangida was also featured. He looked sheepish and kinda ashamed of himself. Why he agreed to be interviewed, I am still asking myself in this Shomolu.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Anyways, the documentary showed the beauty of that exercise, the resolve of Nigerians to fight for their mandate, the treachery of Abacha and even MKO’s running mate who had gone ahead to receive an appointment from the same regime that refused them the actualisation of the mandate and the whole nine yards.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Where I was sitting, the contradiction of it all could not have missed me since I was not a bastard.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>This documentary being watched by the highest echelon of a party that is holding us down was about the actualisation of an election that was deemed the freest and fairest ever, and they sat there watching with a straight face? A Premium Times exclusive has adjudged him a fake professor, and this has thrown a lot of “fear” into the academic and intellectual economy space.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Prof. Kila is a strong personality within these circles. He is well respected for his intellect and his positions. It is no wonder that he is a regular on TV analysing issues, among others. They say he is not all that he says he is. They have labelled him  ”fake,” and have said they are waiting for the response from the school prof “claims” to have attended on their enquiries.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Prof has issued a statement stating very clearly that he is who he is and has threatened court action. We have worked together on a project and continue to interact on various issues.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>I placed a call to him during the week and asked – bro, what is happening? He laughed and wondered why he was being under this kind of scrutiny since he has never held a public position, aspired to any, or even held any such sensitive position.
