Umar Hassan Augie has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency in Kebbi State after winning the party’s fresh primary election ordered by a Federal High Court.
Augie polled 33,013 votes to defeat his challenger, Samir Salihu Felande, who secured 1,319 votes in the election held on Saturday across the constituency’s 21 political wards.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the APC National Committee, Shehu Kawu Damina, said the constituency had 44,784 registered delegates, and that 34,332 votes were cast.
Damina, who also served as the returning officer representing the party’s national headquarters, formally declared Augie the APC candidate for the House of Representatives seat.
The fresh primary followed a Federal High Court judgment delivered in Birnin Kebbi last week, which nullified the earlier primary election and directed the party to conduct a new exercise within two weeks.
The latest exercise was conducted in compliance with the court order, with Augie emerging as the party’s candidate for the constituency.
