Ballon d’Or: ‘One of the best’ – Tabitha Chawinga names player to win award

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

Malawi forward, Tabitha Chawinga is backing her younger sister, Temwa Chawinga to win the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

The Kansas City current player claimed the Golden Boot at the just concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.

Temwa finished with five goals to win the award ahead of Barbra Banda, Marie Ngah Manga and Inès Konan.

The Chawinga sisters, however, failed to lift the trophy, as they were thrashed 3-0 in the final.

However, Tabitha has hailed Temwa as one of the best players in the world and “a superstar”.

She told ESPN: “I believe in my sister, she’s my superstar. She’s one of the best players in the world.

“It won’t only be the Golden Boot. I believe she will win the best player in Africa as well, and maybe, the Ballon d’Or as well.

“She’s a superstar, as you can see. The talent she has, the hard work, and how she did. Absolutely, I give her my respect.

“When I was young, I didn’t have the chance [to win the Ballon d’Or], but I wish my sister to win it. I believe in my sister.”
