Bandits have reportedly burnt harvested rice, killed residents and abducted five people during an attack on Farin Ruwa community in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident was reported in a post shared on Wednesday by security analyst Bakatsine.

“Residents of Farin Ruwa, Maru LGA, Zamfara State, are facing another painful reality as bandits reportedly demand huge sums of money from farmers before allowing them to harvest their crop,” Bakatsine wrote.

According to the report, the bandits invaded the community, abducted residents, killed some people and set piles of harvested rice on fire.

One of the victims, identified as Saminu Adamu, was reportedly killed despite his family having paid a ransom for his release.

His farm produce was also reportedly destroyed in the attack.

The report listed five residents still being held by the bandits as Abdulrahman Shehu, Mansur Muhammad, Idi Muhammad, Abdullahi Sani and Sani Usman.

“How can farmers feed their families when they cannot safely harvest what they planted, and how much longer must these communities endure this suffering before help arrives?,” Bakatsine wrote.
