Bandits ends teacher’s life after collecting N3m ransom from family

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

A teacher, Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, who was abducted along the Anka Road in Zamfara State, has reportedly been killed by his captors despite the payment of a N3 million ransom by his family.

The development was disclosed by journalist Bakatsine, who reports on conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, in a post on X on Saturday.

According to Bakatsine, the victim’s family paid the ransom in a bid to secure his release, but he was still killed by the kidnappers.

“SAD UPDATE: Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, a teacher from Maru who was abducted along Anka road, has reportedly been killed by his captors despite his family paying ₦3 million ransom.

“A devastating reminder that paying ransom is no guarantee of survival. May Allah forgive him, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort his family and everyone mourning this tragic loss,” Bakatsine wrote.

Recall that Maru was abducted in May alongside some of his colleagues while returning to the Federal Government College, FGC, Anka, in Zamfara State.

At the time of the abduction, Bakatsine had reported that the incident occurred along the Anka Road and urged prayers for the safe release of the victims amid worsening insecurity in the state.

Authorities have yet to officially confirm the reported killing as of the time of filing this report.
