Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has called on relevant security agencies to take immediate action over a disturbing viral video in which a Nigerian pastor allegedly urged youths to arm themselves with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons for self-defence.
In the video, the cleric, identified as Pastor Jemimah David, was seen addressing her followers in Plateau State and urging young people to fight back whenever they come under attack.
The remarks have sparked concerns, with some observers warning that they could incite violence in the state.
Reacting to the video, which has been trending on social media, Ahmad described the development as unfortunate and disturbing.
In a post on his official X handle, the former presidential aide recalled how Nigerians across religious divides condemned a previous viral video in which a young Muslim was captured singing a song considered to be inciting.
According to him, people of different faiths condemned the act and called for appropriate action.
Ahmad, however, expressed concern that a religious leader could make similar remarks without considering the potential consequences.
"I sincerely hope the relevant security agencies will take note of this video and take appropriate action in accordance with the law", the post added.
The security crisis bedeviling the nation has prompted some religious leaders to advise their followers on self-defence, especially when they are being attacked by criminal elements.
Here is the video
Just recently, a video of a young boy surfaced on this platform, singing a song that was unanimously considered inciting. Many of us condemned the content and called on the relevant security agencies to investigate and take appropriate action. Unfortunately, this is yet another disturbing video, this time showing Pastor Jemimah David preaching from her pulpit calling on youths in Plateau to arm themselves with knives, cutlasses and AK-47 rifles and take the law into their own hands. I sincerely hope the relevant security agencies will take note of this video and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
