The Bauchi State Government has announced plans to establish a mobile court to prosecute proprietors of unregistered private schools operating in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, disclosed this during an inspection tour of selected private schools in Bauchi metropolis.
The commissioner said the proposed mobile court would be established in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
He said the move was part of efforts to sanitise the education sector and enforce compliance with minimum standards across private schools in the state.
According to him, only 17 of the 47 private schools inspected by the ministry were duly registered, while the remaining 30 were operating illegally.
Abdulkadir warned that proprietors of defaulting schools would face legal action and possible closure.
He said the government would, however, continue to work with compliant school proprietors to improve learning outcomes and ensure quality education.
The commissioner commended the managements of Sunshine International Schools and Dolphin Maria College for meeting the required standards, urging other private schools to regularise their registration.
The proprietors thanked the commissioner for the inspection, describing it as unprecedented, and pledged their continued cooperation with the ministry.
The inspection team included the Permanent Secretary and other top management officials of the Ministry of Education.
