A mobile court sitting at the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) has convicted four people for violating sanitation and environmental regulations after they pleaded for leniency.
The presiding magistrate, Laraba Hamisu, convicted Musa Bashir of Magaji Quarters for failing to comply with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
The court sentenced him to 10 days of community service under the supervision of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Bauchi and BASEPA.
Another defendant, Malam Bello Hassan of Kur, was sanctioned for obstructing waterways.
Similarly, Sarajo Yusuf, Shu’aibu Abubakar and Adamu Musa, all from Zango, were convicted of blocking their neighbour’s wastewater channel through illegal construction on a setback.
Meanwhile, counsel to Bello Hassan, Barrister M.S. Abdulkarim, requested an adjournment to enable him to study the case involving allegations that his client had failed to comply with a court order directing him to remove an illegal obstruction from a waterway.
The court granted the application and adjourned the matter to a later date.
