Benue: Gunmen kill one, abduct another in fresh attack on Ogbadibo

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Gunmen have reportedly killed one person and abducted another during a fresh attack on Adupi-Orokam community in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack occurred late on Thursday, October 15, and extended into the early hours of Friday, October 16, 2026, throwing the community into mourning and renewing concerns over the safety of residents.

The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Odoh, popularly known as “Escape,” was reportedly killed during the incident, while another resident, Onyeke Ameh, also known as “Foreign Man,” was abducted and taken to an unknown destination.

The latest attack comes barely a month after the community was rocked by the killing of Sunday Anthony Ogwuche, popularly known as “Boys Around,” and the abduction of two young men from the residence of Chief Mike Igoche.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Mike Enenche Igoche, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ogbadibo State Constituency seat in the 2027 Benue State House of Assembly election, condemned the attack and called for urgent action to protect residents.

Igoche urged Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia; the Chairman of Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Hon. Sunday Ajuwa; and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the community and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victim.

He expressed concern over the recurring attacks on Adupi-Orokam, describing the community as one that had historically enjoyed peace and security.

The NDC candidate questioned the continued violence in the area and the apparent silence of leaders in the face of repeated attacks.

Residents and concerned stakeholders have also appealed to authorities at the local, state and federal levels to intervene urgently, rescue the abducted resident and identify those responsible for the killings.

They warned that continued insecurity could force residents to flee the community if decisive measures were not taken to protect lives and property.

The latest incident has heightened fears among residents, who are demanding stronger security measures and the arrest and prosecution of those behind the attacks.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police or other security agencies on the incident.
