Benue: NYSC warns corps members against night travel, local politics

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Coordinator in Benue State, Veronica Garba, has warned corps members against night travel and involvement in local politics, urging them to prioritise their safety throughout their service year.

Garba also advised the corps members to avoid taking the law into their own hands and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the appropriate authorities.

She gave the warning during the closing ceremony of the 21-day orientation course for the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.

The state coordinator urged the corps members to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities and avoid actions that could undermine peaceful coexistence.

She also challenged them to initiate impactful Community Development Service ,CDS, projects that would address the needs of their host communities and improve the lives of residents.

Congratulating the corps members on completing the orientation programme, Garba thanked God for preserving the lives and health of the participants and camp officials throughout the exercise.

She commended Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for providing a safe and conducive environment for the smooth conduct of the NYSC programme in the state.

The coordinator equally acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders and collaborating agencies towards the successful implementation of the scheme.

Describing the orientation course as the first cardinal programme of the NYSC scheme, Garba urged the corps members to apply the knowledge, discipline and skills acquired during camp activities as they proceed to their respective Places of Primary Assignment, PPAs.

She further encouraged them to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme seriously by participating in post-camp training and acquiring practical skills that would promote self-reliance and prepare them for life after service.
