Political commentator Mahdi Shehu has criticised the inclusion of Dr Betta Edu in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, questioning her role in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election amid reports of investigations involving her.
Shehu made the remarks in a post on his official X account on Thursday, following the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
President Bola Tinubu had charged Edu, who serves as Director of Women Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, members of the Women’s Directorate and other party leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation and work towards victory in the 2027 elections.
Reacting to Edu’s inclusion in the council, Shehu described her as a pampered politician and questioned whether the party had moved on from the controversies surrounding her.
“Suspended Betta Edu, with pending criminal investigation before ICPC, EFCC and court of public opinion, is now a pampered politician whose sins have either been forgiven under APC syllabus of error or cleansed and dry cleaned with a bottle of SWAN water whose cost is N583M or she has been ‘SAVED’ by her geography,” he wrote.
“Either way, her name and role as contained in the APC-PCC defines the moral decay in Nigerians democracy where shamelessness is the order of the day and alleged criminals always have their ways through human ways and means,” he added.
Recall that on Wednesday, President Tinubu charged Betta Edu and other APC women leaders to mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
