The body of an unidentified teenage boy has been discovered in the swimming pool of the University of Ibadan (UI).

The discovery has prompted the Oyo State Police Command to launch an investigation into a suspected case of murder.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said: “The institution’s Chief Security Officer reported that a body had been sighted in the pool. Police detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene to commence investigations.”

He added, “On arrival, detectives observed blood oozing from the victim’s mouth and nose, as well as bruising around the nose and blood stains within the pavilion area. Items believed to belong to the deceased, including a shirt and a pair of shoes, were recovered near the poolside.”

DSP Ayanlade also disclosed preliminary findings by the institution, saying: “The victim, who is estimated to be between 14 and 15 years old and is not a student of the university, may have gained access to the facility by climbing over the fence after closing hours.”

He confirmed the next steps, stating: “The body was taken to Adeoyo General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead and deposited in the mortuary as investigations continue.”
