The Borno State Police Command has urged travellers who become stranded, lost or distressed during their journeys to seek assistance at the nearest police station.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, gave the advice in a post on his official Facebook page on Thursday.
Daso cited the case of a woman who travelled from Maiduguri to Kano to visit her relatives but became stranded after losing contact with them.
He said the woman had no mobile phone and did not know her relatives’ residential address.
According to him, police officers in Kano contacted relevant authorities in Borno State, traced her family in Maiduguri and facilitated her safe return.
Daso advised travellers to inform trusted relatives or friends about their destinations and expected arrival times before embarking on journeys.
He also urged stranded travellers to remain calm, avoid isolated areas and approach the nearest police station or identifiable police officers for assistance.
