Bovi set to hit Lagos stage with ‘Guilty as Charged’

Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma is set to conclude the latest leg of his stand-up tour in Lagos on October 11 with his show, Bovi: Guilty as Charged, at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Bovi said the performance would draw on events, personal experiences and topical issues from the past year.
“I’m going to talk about everything you can think of that has happened in the last one year,” he said.
Explaining the title, the comedian said the show would follow his tradition of building performances around a central theme, with much of the material taking aim at different issues and individuals.
“It’s Guilty as Charged because, like any show I do, there’s always a running title with it, and it’s like an album. In every album, there’s one song in music that usually is the title of the album. So most of the jokes are themed, and the majority of them are pointing accusing fingers. It’s for you to find out on that day,” he said.
Bovi also disclosed that the show would feature several emerging comedians as opening acts, while an unnamed A-list comedian is expected to make a guest appearance.
“I’m featuring many young comics, young in career, age, or both, as opening acts,” he said.
The comedian also reflected on the need for caution when addressing sensitive subjects, particularly situations involving people whose stories are still unfolding.
He noted that comedians must consider how their jokes could be interpreted to avoid having material about ongoing events misunderstood or perceived as personal attacks.
With nearly two decades of experience across stand-up comedy, television and film, Bovi has built a career around observational humour and storytelling, drawing material from relationships, social issues, popular culture and everyday experiences.
