Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Chukwuebuka Amuzie, better known as Brain Jotter, has raised concerns after allegedly being harassed by suspected Lagos hoodlums while driving in the state.
Brain Jotter shared a video of the incident on his Instagram page on Tuesday, showing a group of men confronting him on a Lagos road and reportedly demanding money before allowing him to continue his journey.
Captioning the video, the comedian wrote, “Nigerian zoo keepers are the worst. We lack good wildlife and they let a lion escape from the zoo. This is sad.”
The incident has drawn attention to the activities of hoodlums who have repeatedly been accused of harassing and extorting motorists, entertainers and other residents across different parts of Lagos.
Brain Jotter’s experience comes days after Saltiana, the younger sister of Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr, also alleged that suspected area boys damaged her vehicle after mistaking her for the singer.
Saltiana, popularly known as DJ Salt of Life, said the men reportedly called her sister’s name before attacking her vehicle when she refused to give them money.
In another recent incident, medical doctor Olusina Ajidahun, popularly known as The Bearded Sina, and music video director ThankGod Omori, aka TG Omori, separately recounted alleged encounters with hoodlums while carrying out their professional activities in Lagos.
Ajidahun alleged that hoodlums disrupted a free medical outreach in Mushin and demanded money, threatening to cause a disturbance if their demands were not met.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, had previously said the state government was continuing efforts to arrest and remove street urchins from various parts of the state.
Wahab, however, noted that cash handouts to hoodlums by celebrities, influencers and members of the public could undermine such efforts by encouraging the perception that the streets are a source of livelihood.
He urged members of the public to cooperate with the government in tackling the hoodlums’ activities and creating a safer and more orderly Lagos.
