BREAKING: Crisis hits ADC in Benue as primary election turns bloody

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

A major crisis has erupted within the African Democratic Congress in Benue State following violent scenes, protests and growing allegations surrounding the party’s primary election process.

Tension escalated across parts of Benue South as aggrieved youths reportedly stormed the office of Samson Okwu, accusing him of allegedly working with Tiv political interests to deny the Idoma bloc the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

The protesters, who carried placards and chanted solidarity songs, warned against any move capable of sidelining the Idoma nation in the party’s governorship arrangement, insisting that Benue South deserves a fair opportunity to produce the party’s candidate.

Amid the growing controversy, the National Chairman of the ADC, David Mark, has remained silent over the crisis, further fueling tension and suspicion among party supporters in the state.

The situation took another dramatic turn in Okpokwu Local Government Area after reports emerged that the local chairman of the African Democratic Congress was allegedly kidnapped by unknown persons.

Following the incident, heavily armed police officers reportedly took over the party secretariat in Okpoga to prevent a breakdown of law and order as panic spread among party members and residents.

In another development, Ejembi Adaje has called for the total cancellation of the party’s primary election in Enone, alleging irregularities and insisting that the process failed to reflect the wishes of genuine party members.
