Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has sworn in two commissioners, one permanent secretary and 17 newly elected local government chairmen, charging them to place public interest above personal interests.
Buni gave the charge on Thursday in Damaturu while administering the oath of office to the appointees, urging them to justify the mandate given to them by the electorate and the confidence reposed in them by the state government.
The governor said the new officials must align with his administration’s reform agenda, which he said had transformed governance and improved service delivery across the state.
Citing recent milestones in the health sector, Buni said institutional reforms and investments by his administration had brought Yobe’s healthcare services in line with modern standards.
“You will recall that early this year, the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital successfully conducted a total hip replacement surgery, while the Damaturu Specialist Hospital successfully carried out a major maxillofacial surgery.
“These are two sophisticated medical surgeries that were hitherto performed only in a few advanced hospitals and developed countries,” he said.
He added that the West African College of Physicians had granted full accreditation to the Department of Community Medicine at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital for postgraduate residency training.
According to him, the West African College of Surgeons had also certified the Damaturu Specialist Hospital for postgraduate training of resident doctors in obstetrics and gynaecology.
“Alhamdulillah, Yobe State is truly moving. I salute the courage, resilience and commitment of our civil servants. You definitely make us proud,” Buni declared.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of the people and reminded the local government chairmen that their electoral victories were secured under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He urged them to work towards the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections.
Those sworn in included Dr Abubakar Kagu as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dauda Alhaji Idi as Commissioner for Livestock Development, and Fatima Makintami as Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice.
