The Kingdom of Busoga has postponed celebrations to mark the 12th Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty Isebantu Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV to allow Ugandans to attend the burial of the late Omukama of Tooro, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The celebrations, initially scheduled for September 13, 2026, will now take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Mayuge District Headquarters grounds, according to the Office of the Katukiro (Prime Minister) of Busoga.
Announcing the postponement, Busoga Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muwawala said the decision was taken out of respect for the late Tooro monarch and to give Ugandans an opportunity to attend his burial.
“This has been done to honour and allow all Ugandans attend the burial of the fallen monarch of Obukama bwa Tooro, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, which shall coincide with the 12th Coronation Anniversary celebrations of Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga,” Muwawala said.
Muwawala said the change in programme was necessary because the burial of the fallen Omukama coincides with the date initially set for the Kyabazinga’s coronation anniversary celebrations.
The Busoga Kingdom also confirmed that the Gabula Day commemoration scheduled for September 9, 2026, in Buyende District, will proceed as planned.
According to Muwawala, the Gabula Day ceremony will also provide an opportunity for Busoga to eulogise the late Omukama of Tooro.
The decision highlights the solidarity and cultural bonds among Uganda’s traditional institutions, with Busoga joining the nation in mourning the death of the Tooro monarch.
The Busoga Kingdom concluded its statement with a tribute to the late king: “May the Soul of our departed monarch rest in eternal peace.”
