Shooting Stars defeated Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien 1-0 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round tie at the Moshood Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, on Saturday.
It was Shooting Stars’ first continental game since 1999.
The hosts dominated the opening exchanges, pushing Sfaxien back into their own half.
Lucky Emmanuel netted the winning goal for Shooting Stars four minutes before the half-hour mark.
The visitors fought hard in the second half, but the home side’s goalkeeper made a number of vital saves to preserve the lead.
The reverse fixture will take place in Sfax next weekend.
The winner will proceed to the second preliminary round of the competition.
