Candidates omitted from INEC lists should stop litigation — Shehu Sani

Former Senator Shehu Sani has advised candidates omitted from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists to stop pursuing legal battles, saying they risk wasting money, time and energy.

Sani made the appeal in a post on X on Saturday, following a Supreme Court ruling that enabled INEC to exclude some candidates from its lists.

“The Supreme Court ruling that enabled INEC to exclude some names of candidates is very clear. Affected candidates should not waste their money, time and energy fighting a lost battle,” he said.

He also appealed to lawyers, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), to discourage the affected candidates from filing fresh suits that could further increase their legal expenses.

“I also wish to appeal to those Barristers and SANs to ‘pity’ those candidates and allow them to rest, and not mislead them into spending more money filing fresh suits,” Sani added.

He urged the affected candidates to accept the situation and prepare for future political opportunities, noting that the current electoral cycle would eventually end.

“Four years will come and go; let them strategise for the future,” he said.
