As he takes over GFF
The newly-elected president of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Kemo Ceesay, formally assumed duties yesterday at a colourful handing over ceremony at Football House.
Witnessed by his executive committee, President Ceesay took over the reins from Lamin Kaba Bajo, who retired after 12 years of service.
In his welcome remarks, the general secretary, Lamin Jassey, thanked the electoral committee, stakeholders, the media, and all partners for their role in the process leading to this democratic transfer of power.
He assured the audience that the GFF Secretariat remains committed to supporting the new leadership to ensure the continuous development of the game.
In his speech, outgoing president Lamin Kaba Bajo thanked stakeholders for their support throughout his tenure, and congratulated the new president.
Bajo used the occasion to highlight key governance reforms and achievements, including the establishment of legal frameworks such as term limits, and commended the electoral committee for conducting a fair, transparent and peaceful elections.
He urged the public and stakeholders to rally behind the new leadership, adding that the success of President Ceesay and his team will be a success for Gambian football.
In his acceptance speech President Kemo Ceesay reaffirmed his commitment to football development in The Gambia.
As a gesture of appreciation, he presented a certificate of merit to the outgoing president, a gesture replicated by the GFF Secretariat.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of the handover documents, marking the start of a new era of football governance in The Gambia. The new executive was also given a tour of the GFF Secretariat.
