Senior figures at Manchester United are considering appointing Brighton's Fabian Hürzeler as their next manager.
Hürzeler has emerged as an "outstanding" candidate for the job in the United board room, according to the Manchester Evening News.
However, United would have to pay a huge compensation fee to bring him to Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick has come under intense pressure in the past few weeks.
On Wednesday evening, the Red Devils lost 4-1 to Como in the Champions League.
The result means that Carrick's men have not won their last seven fixtures in all competitions.
On the other hand, Brighton have become the great entertainers in the Premier League.
The Seagulls are the highest scorers in the English top flight and sit in third place behind Manchester City and Arsenal.
