The Ogun State chapter of the CityBoy Movement says it is targeting more than 500,000 active members across the state before January 2027 as it intensifies grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The Director-General of the movement in Ogun State, Dr Abdulateef Sulaimon, disclosed this on Saturday during the inauguration of the group’s state executives and commissioning of its secretariat in Abeokuta.
Sulaimon said the movement had recorded over 150,000 active members within a month of commencing its membership drive, describing the figure as a foundation for expanding its grassroots network.
“Within just a month of commencing our membership drive, the CityBoy Movement in Ogun State has recorded over 150,000 organic active members. This is a significant milestone for us, but we see it not as the destination, rather as the foundation for something much bigger,” he said.
He said the group, which supports Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, was committed to engaging young people, communicating the administration’s policies and encouraging participation in the democratic process.
“Our responsibility is to take this mandate to the grassroots, engage our people, communicate the administration’s programmes and policies, and encourage responsible participation in the democratic process,” Sulaimon said.
The event was attended by the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Adeola Olamilekan; Minister of State for Health, Ishaq Salako; Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare; and the President’s Personal Assistant on Special Duties, Alhaji Kamorudeen Yusuf.
Governor Dapo Abiodun was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
Speaking at the event, Olamilekan urged residents to support Tinubu in the 2027 election, saying Ogun State should deliver at least two million votes for the president.
“Ogun State has over three million registered voters, and with this number, I believe we should give President Tinubu at least two million votes in 2027,” he said.
He cited federal projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta and the upgrade of Tai Solarin University of Education to a federal university, as benefits of Tinubu’s administration to the state.
The movement’s National Director-General, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, charged the newly inaugurated executives to extend its activities to all 20 local government areas, engage young people and build a disciplined grassroots structure for Tinubu’s re-election.
Shoga described their appointments as a call to service and commended Yusuf for his leadership and commitment to the movement in Ogun State.
