Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has sworn in 68 legal practitioners as Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, during a ceremony marking the 2026/2027 legal year.

This was disclosed on Monday by the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, on its official X account.

The report said that the swearing-in ceremony marks a significant moment for the newly elevated lawyers, who have attained one of the highest professional distinctions in Nigeria’s legal profession.

DAILY POST reports that the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, is conferred on legal practitioners in recognition of their professional standing and contributions to the development of law and the administration of justice.

The rank is awarded to legal practitioners who meet established requirements relating to professional competence, experience, integrity and contributions to the legal profession.

Recipients are drawn from practitioners who have demonstrated the standards required for elevation under the applicable guidelines.

The conferment process is overseen by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, LPPC, which considers applications and determines eligible candidates in line with the rules governing the award.

The swearing in ceremony also coincided with the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year.
