Classrooms remain first defence against crime – Ogun CP declares

Daily Post 20 minutes 2 mins read

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has said the classroom remains the first line of defence in the fight against cultism and youth crime.

Ojajuni spoke on Tuesday at Eleweran, Abeokuta, while hosting the Provost of the Federal College of Education, FCE, Abeokuta, Joseph Bankole Filani, and his management team.

The visit comes amid concerns over cult-related activities and other social vices in tertiary institutions across Ogun State.

The police commissioner said policing alone could not prevent crime, stressing that nurturing law-abiding and self-reliant students was a strategic investment in public safety.

He emphasised the critical role of educators in shaping values, attitudes and responsible citizenship.

“Educating and nurturing law-abiding, responsible and self-reliant young people is a strategic investment in crime prevention and sustainable public safety,” he said.

Ojajuni said the command had intensified its sensitisation campaign in schools through the Police Public Relations Department and the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).

He assured the college management that the command would deepen its partnership with FCE Abeokuta to strengthen campus security and promote security awareness among students.

Earlier, Filani said FCE Abeokuta, the first tertiary institution in Ogun State and now transitioning into a degree-awarding institution, was focused on entrepreneurial development to make students self-reliant and less vulnerable to crime.

He commended Ojajuni for the prevailing peace and security in the state and pledged the college’s continued support and cooperation with the command.
