The Chief of Army Staff, COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops of the Nigerian Army to maintain sustained pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements across the country, stressing that both operational efficiency and the welfare of personnel remain key to success in tackling insecurity.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Army, the Army Chief gave the directive on Friday, March 27, 2026, while addressing troops at the Headquarters Nigerian Army Armour Corps and the 33 Artillery Brigade, Shadawanka Barracks in Bauchi State.

Speaking to the soldiers, the Army Chief urged them to remain combat-ready and step up efforts to confront and eliminate terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups operating within their areas.

He noted that the persistent activities of these elements have forced many innocent citizens out of their homes, while reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in affected communities.

“Operational effectiveness and troops welfare remain critical to the Nigerian Army’s success in combating insecurity,” he said.

Lieutenant General Shaibu further assured the troops that the Army leadership would continue to provide the necessary logistics and operational support required to carry out ongoing missions successfully.

He emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism and tactical competence, urging troops to sustain pressure on criminal elements in order to deny them freedom of movement and rebuild public trust.

The COAS also reiterated his commitment to the welfare of soldiers and their families, noting that a motivated force is essential for achieving success on the battlefield.

“A motivated and well-supported force is essential for operational success,” he added.

He assured that deliberate steps would continue to be taken to improve morale, boost efficiency and enhance overall combat performance.

Prior, the Army Chief paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Dr. Suleiman Rilwanu, where he commended the traditional ruler for his continued support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

He also assured that ongoing military efforts are aimed at eliminating banditry and all forms of criminality, while calling for stronger collaboration between the military and local communities.
