We will converge at a particular venue to pray while we fast. During this time no Okada riders is to be seen playing the road with passengers, else serious sanctions are applied against offenders,”he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Nsan testified that he has seen the effects of the weekly fast as he, including his colleagues, have hardly encountered serious negative incidents in the course of his work.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The DPO of Ikom Town, CSP Abdulrahman Lagbe and chairman of Ikom LGA, Pastor Mercy Nsor, confirmed the reduction in crimes in their jurisdiction owing to the grace of God.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The DPO  spoke about safety in Ikom and that prayers can continue to help reduce crimes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“I can tell you that crimes have reduced in Ikom but despite that your prayers will help us while we also intensify our approaches to stem crimes. As a Muslim, I know that without God and prayers you cannot succeed. Our responsibility is to provide security but it is God who secures us,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca Tosin Adefeko, however, has always seemed more interested in what comes next. At 50, her story is not only about what she has achieved, but also about her willingness to keep learning, changing and building. That instinct has shaped a career spanning banking, media, marketing communications and entrepreneurship. More than a record of success, it is a story of continuous becoming. The thread running through it all is what she has helped make possible for others.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Today, Tosin fondly called Tosh by her friends is the Founder and CEO of AT3 – The MUVMNT Agency, a brand growth agency that grew from the specialist communications consultancy she founded years ago. Her career may look carefully planned in hindsight, but the path was far from obvious. She studied English and Literary Studies and grew up around books, ideas and lively conversation. Her father, the late Dr Femi Adekanye, was a banker, author and former Chairman of Commerce Bank. Tosin has spoken about reading and editing his books, reading newspapers and business magazines, following the news and debating current affairs. That early curiosity that would later shape her work in communications was already taking root.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Her first major career chapter, however, was banking. Tosin worked across five banks and built a successful career, but she came to an uncomfortable conclusion: being good at something does not always mean it is where you belong. At 31, she chose to change direction. After earning a master’s degree in Marketing Communications in England, she returned to Nigeria and moved into media through Arise Magazine and NN24. She later sought an opportunity to learn from one of Nigeria’s leading marketing communications professionals, Dr Biodun Shobanjo. She joined The Quadrant Company, rose through the ranks and eventually became Chief Operating Officer of QuadrantMSL, working with major local and international organisations across technology, financial services, FMCG and other sectors.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Those years gave Tosin experience, but they also helped her see what was missing. She began to notice market gaps and opportunities to do things differently. Eventually, she decided to build something of her own. That decision became AT3 Resources. The early years were not glamorous. Tosin has spoken openly about having more time than briefs and taking on opportunities, including some unpaid work, to build experience and credibility. She volunteered her expertise to organisations such as Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), sometimes asking only for AT3’s logo to appear on a backdrop.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In many ways, she was building a reputation before recognition. The work eventually began to speak for itself. More briefs came, local and global brands trusted the agency with their businesses, and AT3 grew from a specialist communications consultancy into the wider brand growth business now known as AT3 – The MUVMNT Agency. Her experience offers a useful reminder that success rarely looks as neat while it is being built as it does when the story is told years later. Much of it happens quietly, through patience, consistency and a willingness to keep doing the work before anyone is paying attention.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>People who have worked closely with Tosin will recognise that persistence. Once she decides something is worth doing, it can be difficult to convince her that it cannot be done. She can be warm and demanding, encouraging while still expecting more. She questions ideas, challenges assumptions and often pushes people beyond their first answer. Underneath that approach is a strong belief in possibility. A difficult idea is not always impossible. Sometimes it simply needs more thought, better execution or someone willing to keep working at it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Perhaps the most interesting shift in Tosin’s career came after she had already built a name for herself in communications. For years, she helped organisations find and tell their stories. Over time, she began creating spaces for others to tell theirs. Through The Muvmnt Studio, she hosted conversations with women leaders, industry trailblazers, and corporate executives, including The Uncovered Series. Through #ToshTalks, she created a more personal platform to share her thoughts on leadership, entrepreneurship, communications and life. Then came PodFest Naija, bringing together Nigeria’s growing community of podcasters, creators and storytellers.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The inaugural PodFest Naija in 2025 attracted more than 2,200 registered podcasters, creators, storytellers and enthusiasts, with more than 40 storytellers participating. By 2026, it had grown into a broader gathering of creators, brands, culture shapers and others in the storytelling community. That growth says something about the direction Tosin’s work has taken. She spent years helping brands find the right stories to tell. Today, she also helps create spaces where others can find an audience for their own stories.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>This evolution makes sense to anyone who knows Tosh beyond her professional titles. She loves a good conversation. She reads, questions, debates and becomes deeply engaged when an idea catches her attention. Her interest often goes beyond what someone has achieved to the person behind the achievement. That curiosity helps explain why conversations, storytelling and creating opportunities for others have become such an important part of her work. She believes ideas deserve to be explored, people deserve to be heard and knowledge becomes more useful when it is shared.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Recognition has followed. Tosin has been honoured among leading women in Nigeria’s marketing communications industry, named an Outstanding PR Personality of the Year, recognised among industry women change-makers and listed among leading women in Africa. She has also served on international and regional awards juries, including the IPRA Global Awards and SABRE Awards. These achievements matter, but at 50, there is another way to look at her success. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The more interesting question may not be what Tosin has accumulated, but what she has multiplied: people, ideas, opportunities, and confidence.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>That impact is often harder to put on a résumé. You can see it in the colleague who accepts a bigger challenge because Tosin saw more in them, the professional who leaves a conversation believing an ambitious idea can work, or the woman who looks at Tosin’s career and understands that changing direction at 31 was not failure. Her journey shows that success can have several chapters. Reinvention does not mean the chapter before it was a mistake. Sometimes it simply means you have learned enough to know it is time to write another one.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>At 50, Tosin Adefeko has been a banker, media professional, communications strategist, agency leader, entrepreneur, storyteller, podcaster and convener. The thread connecting these different chapters is clearer than any single title: she has continued to grow while creating room for others to grow too. A meaningful career, after all, is not measured only by what a person builds, but also by what becomes possible for others as a result. A credible election, and nothing less, is all that millions of Nigerians expect from the INEC helmsman in what is his first major assignment.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Organising general elections in a diversely multi-ethnic and multi-religious country of over 220 million people like ours cannot be described as a tea party. A cursory look at INEC’s released operational data confirms this. The Commission’s operations cover 176,846 polling units, 8,838 Registration Area Centres in 36 states plus the FCT, and 774 local government offices across the country. Its other logistical requirements include 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices and more than 100,000 vehicles and 4,000 boats for the movement of personnel and election materials.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>This looks herculean but not insurmountable with steady preparation and sincerity of purpose on the part of the Commission’s leadership. With less than 100 days to the first ballot, Amupitan, during his global media briefing, assured the nation and the international community of INEC’s “total commitment to neutrality, operational excellence, and the sacred integrity of the ballot box.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>His voice is loud enough to be heard, and until his promise becomes reality, it is only fair to give him the benefit of the doubt.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>But a particular aspect of Amupitan’s speech that caught yours sincerely’s attention was his revelation that the national voter register now stands at 103,428,715. According to him, this follows the completion of the three phases of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which produced an additional 10,772,421 fresh registrations. This could cautiously be interpreted as a reflection of Nigerians’ commitment to performing their civic responsibility in 2027, even though the reality of the 2023 elections suggests otherwise.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Expectedly, Lagos, the former federal capital, leads with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640. Katsina has 3,876,051 voters, Rivers has 3,736,434, Oyo has 3,588,111, Delta has 3,525,988, Benue has 3,057,225, Ogun has 3,037,981 and Bauchi has 3,012,547.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>At the bottom of the table are Ekiti, Bayelsa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 1,055,708, 1,200,691 and 1,732,043 voters, respectively. The demographic breakdown shows that male voters constitute 53.53 million, representing 51.75 percent, while female voters account for 49.90 million, representing 48.25 percent. Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) captured in the register, according to INEC, amount to 232,658.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Obviously, these top ten states with the highest voter registration will remain the focal points of the battle for votes between the ruling and opposition parties. Curiously, five of the ten are from the northern part of the country, and the implication of this cannot be lost on the politically discerning. Also, Lagos leading other states in voter numbers is a reminder that the 2006 national population census is now obsolete, while also bringing to the fore the long-overdue call to accord the Centre of Excellence a special status in the federation.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The significant role of a credible voter register in any election cannot be ignored, which is why yours sincerely is particularly interested in it. A well-prepared voter register serves as a verification instrument for identifying eligible voters in order to prevent multiple voting or impersonation on election day. It also helps political parties to establish eligibility for nomination and to maintain a credible membership register. It further aids in the determination of polling unit locations, among other things. In view of all this, one would presuppose that INEC, before announcing the voter registration figures, must have done the requisite due diligence that is the hallmark of a credible register. Amupitan should not be found wanting in this regard.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>More importantly, it is necessary to interrogate why, despite high voter registration figures, turnout on election day has hitherto remained particularly low. For instance, the 2023 register had 93.5 million voters, but turnout was put at 27 percent, believed to be the lowest ever recorded for a presidential election in this Fourth Republic. President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won the election, polled 8,794,726 votes, or 36.61 percent of the total votes cast. Atiku Abubakar of the PDP polled 6,984,520 votes, or 29.07 percent, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party scored 6,101,533 votes, or 25.4 percent. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP scored 1,496,687 votes, representing 6.23 percent of the total votes cast.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>This low turnout might not be unconnected to the shenanigans that preceded the 2023 elections, where foot soldiers of former President Muhammadu Buhari did everything to frustrate the wishes of eligible voters by creating serious socio-economic distortions with dire consequences.\u003Cbr>Even in 2015, total voter turnout was 43.65 percent. That year, according to INEC, there were 68,833,476 registered voters.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Muhammadu Buhari scored 15,424,921 votes, amounting to 53.96 percent, while Goodluck Jonathan scored 12,853,162 votes, amounting to 44.96 percent. This result was achieved largely because opposition parties came together to wrest power from the then-ruling PDP under President Jonathan. Genuine voter interest was evident in the declared results. Can we expect a re-enactment of this in 2027? This is seriously in doubt because most eligible Nigerians believe that their votes will not count. Nigerians are also more concerned about how to weather the storm of economic hardship currently ravaging the country today.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Hitherto, electoral records show that the highest voter turnout of 69.1 percent recorded during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s second-term re-election in April 2003 cannot be relied upon because the election itself, conducted under Professor Maurice Iwu as INEC Chairman, was replete with rigging, violence and electoral fraud. Obasanjo’s handpicked successor, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, failed the same electoral integrity test in 2007. Yar’Adua was adjudged to have recorded a similar 69.1 percent turnout — a result that he himself publicly acknowledged to be flawed. So, those two records are highly unreliable and discredited.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The high voter registration figures recorded by INEC under Amupitan are quite inspiring, but will they translate into massive turnout on election day? Will eligible Nigerians turn out in large numbers to let their votes speak for them? The turnout at political rallies, campaigns and marches has proved unreliable, judging by antecedents. We have seen several instances across the federation of orchestrated five-million-man marches for different high-profile candidates that evaporated to less than 500,000 votes on election day.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>This same time-wasting political strategy by top politicians and their supporters has led to the wastage of hundreds of millions of naira through hiring crowds for such misleading rallies, marches and campaigns, only to fall flat in securing anticipated votes on election day. Some of these politicians are already enmeshed in such costly but unnecessary political marketing at the moment. These politicians and their supporters learn nothing from history.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Yiaga Africa’s National Voting Intentions Survey, NVIS 3.0, in its recently released report titled: “Willing but Wary: How Nigerians Intend to Vote in 2027,” gave this issue a scientific dimension. It indicated that Nigerians willing to vote have only a vague commitment, with the proportion of those “very likely” to vote dropping from 52% to 47%. It further stated clearly that only 41% are likely to vote and are very certain of their choice. If this report is indeed true, it already makes mincemeat of the freshly compiled INEC voter register regarding voter turnout. Indeed, the voters’ test of will lies ahead as the 2027 general election draws closer.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The final questions: Come 2027, can the genuine over-50 percent voter turnout of 2015 be replicated? If the coming together of the opposition 11 years ago made it possible, can the mass defection of governors to the ruling APC re-enact that credible 2015 turnout feat? Are the defectors sincere with the ruling party or just seeking temporary political refuge from the EFCC nightmare? The answer to especially the second question is complicated because the circumstances of the two periods are not the same. We welcome the relief this brings to households, commuters and transporters.\u003Cbr>“Some commentators have described the discount as a return of fuel subsidy. That is not correct. Here, plainly, is what the discount is and what it is not.”\u003Cbr>Providing further clarification, he stated:\u003Cbr>“Every marketer adds a margin to the price it pays for the fuel it sells. A margin discount means the retailer chooses to take a smaller margin, or no margin at all for a period, and passes the saving to the customer. The cost of the discount is borne by the retailer alone.\u003Cbr>“A subsidy is different. It is when government pays part of the price the consumer would otherwise pay. That money comes from public revenue — funds that would otherwise go to salaries, schools, hospitals and infrastructure. That is the regime this administration ended in 2023, and it is not coming back.”\u003Cbr>By constrast, he noted that subsidy involves government financing part of the product’s cost with public funds.\u003Cbr>According to him, the cost of the discount is borne by the retailer alone, adding that the initiative did not represent a reversal of the government’s petroleum pricing reforms.\u003Cbr>NNPCL Retail, he further said, continues to purchase petrol from the Dangote Refinery and other suppliers at prevailing market prices on commercial terms before applying its retail margin to determine the pump price.\u003Cbr>However, he said under the NNPC template, the discount is being absorbed by the company’s retail margin, leaving the pump price reflective of market conditions.\u003Cbr>He differentiated the initiative from a situation in which crude oil belonging to the Federation is sold below market value to reduce domestic petrol prices.\u003Cbr>Such an arrangement, he argued, would effectively transfer the cost to public revenue.\u003Cbr>The government, he stated, was committed to the removal of fuel subsidy and would continue to pursue alternative measures to ease the impact of high petrol prices on households and businesses without returning to a system that placed the financial burden on public resources.\u003Cbr>Oyedele also deflated concerns that reducing the company’s retail margin would necessarily result in lower profits for NNPC Limited and, consequently, reduced dividend payments to the Federation, adding that the reduction in earnings per litre could be offset by increased sales volumes as motorists patronised the company’s stations in response to the lower prices.\u003Cbr>Meanwhile, the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) has argued that the announcement by the federal government’s initiative on price modulation mechanism to ensure that petrol price stabilises at not more than N1,350 falls short of the expectations of Nigerians who desire a reasonable relief that reduces the hardship.\u003Cbr>A statenent issued by CSJ’s Lead Director, Eze Onyekpere said Nigerians were buying petrol at about N800 before the start of the America-Israel-Iran war, adding that the expectation is that any relief measure should revert fuel price to the N800 figure with a sequenced detailed plan to further reduce the price between N400-N500 per litre in the medium term.\u003Cbr>He argued that the proposed reduction is possible through the following measures:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\u003Cli>Set a domestic price cap regime for crude oil indexed on the desired official policy price per litre of different petroleum products and the Nigerian standard of living. This will produce a price lower that the international price of crude oil.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>Empirically determine the number of barrels per day needed by local refineries to satisfy Nigeria’s refined petroleum product needs. Take cognisance of the fact that crude oil produces over 21 derivatives – more than petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>Deliver crude oil to local refineries at the reduced price.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>Ensure that refined products are not smuggled or diverted away from Nigeria. Just meticulously police the borders.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>Concession the four NNPC refineries to core investors with technical, financial and managerial capacity to start immediate refining of crude oil.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>Recover all monies stolen under the pretext of turn around maintenance of the refineries, especially the $3billion stolen under the Muhammadu Buhari regime.\u003Cbr>Considering that the federal government recently declared a savings of N15.8 trillion between June 2023 and December 2025, translating to N6.32 trillion a year, he argued that if the government cuts the subsidy by 50 per cent, it would amount to a forfeited revenue of N3.16 trillion a year.\u003Cbr>According to him, an expenditure or forfeited revenue of N3.16 trillion a year (by all the tiers of Government in Nigeria) that reduces fuel prices by 50 per cent is an investment greater than any imaginary illusionary macroeconomic indicator achievement.\u003Cbr>“There is an alternative to the complete removal of fuel subsidy and corruption.
