The Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo has adjourned the suit filed by Alhaji Abdulhadi Lau against Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairman, to October 7, 2026, for definite hearing.
The case came up on Wednesday for the commencement of trial. However, counsel to the plaintiff requested an extension of time to file responses to the replies submitted by the first, second and third respondents.
The plaintiff’s counsel told the court that the additional time was required to adequately address the issues raised in the respondents’ replies and ensure a comprehensive presentation of the plaintiff’s case.
Counsel representing the respondents did not oppose the application but drew the court’s attention to what they described as delays on the part of the plaintiff.
They argued that the repeated delays were prolonging the proceedings and increasing the resources required by all parties, urging the court to ensure strict adherence to timelines going forward.
After considering the submissions of both parties, the presiding judge granted the plaintiff’s application for an extension of time.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to October 7, 2026, for definite hearing, citing the need to ensure fair hearing and allow all parties to fully join issues before the commencement of trial.
The court also directed that all outstanding court processes be filed and exchanged within the stipulated time to facilitate the smooth progression of the case at the next sitting.
