Court jails man for one year over soybean theft in Kano

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

A Magistrate Court sitting in Kafin Maiyaki, Kano State, has sentenced a young man simply identified as Ashiru, from Kofa village in Bebeji Local Government Area, to one year in prison without an option of fine for stealing soybeans.

Ashiru was sentenced after pleading guilty to the offence during a court session presided over by the Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Alhaji Isa.

The complainant, Abdullahi, had left three sacks of harvested soybeans on his farm while searching for motorcycle operators to transport the produce.

However, before Abdullahi returned, Ashiru allegedly arranged for some motorcycle operators to haul away the soybeans without the owner's knowledge.

Following his arrest, the prosecutor, Sergeant Aminu Muhammad Ciromawa, arraigned him before the court.

Ashiru pleaded guilty after the court registrar, Bahazalla, read the charge against him.

The court also sentenced the man who bought the stolen soybeans to six months in prison and ordered that the three sacks of soybeans be returned to their rightful owner.
