CUPP seeks probe of PFIPC, calls for accountability

ABUJA — The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called for a full-scale investigation into the activities of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), urging the relevant authorities to investigate allegations surrounding the body and prosecute anyone found culpable.

Speaking in an interview in Abuja on Sunday, the Acting National Chairman of the coalition, Chief Peter Ameh, expressed concern over the inclusion of the council in the 2026 budget despite questions surrounding its legal status.

According to Ameh, the 2026 Budget Call Circular was issued to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), raising questions about the basis for the council’s inclusion in the budget.

He argued that the process through which the body was reflected in the budget required clarification, noting that it passed through several stages of government approval before being presented for presidential assent.

Ameh called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the council’s inclusion in the budget and the role of officials involved in the process.

He also raised concerns over reports that a bank account was opened for the council at the Central Bank of Nigeria, saying the matter should be thoroughly investigated to determine whether due process was followed.

According to him, the use of public institutions in relation to a body whose legal status has been questioned warrants greater scrutiny.

The CUPP chairman cautioned against any actions that could undermine ongoing efforts to establish the facts surrounding the matter, stressing the need for transparency and accountability.

He also called on the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, to step aside if necessary to allow an independent investigation into allegations linked to the matter.

Ameh urged the National Assembly and relevant anti-corruption agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, insisting that anyone found to have violated the law should be held accountable through due process.

He said Nigerians deserve transparent governance anchored on integrity, accountability and the rule of law.
