Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has joined businessman Aliko Dangote in New York’s Times Square as the campaign for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals’ Initial Public Offering, IPO, gains international visibility.
Davido and Dangote were seen beneath a large Nasdaq digital billboard displaying the message, “Made in Nigeria. Built for the World.”
In the viral video, the singer and the billionaire businessman gestured towards the billboard, waved and gave thumbs-up signs as people gathered around them.
The appearance on Tuesday, comes amid the ongoing public offer of shares in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
During their interaction, Davido asked Dangote why Nigerians should consider buying shares in the refinery.
Responding, Dangote said wider ownership of the company would help spread prosperity and wealth throughout Africa.
“It is very important, David, because that’s the only way to spread prosperity and wealth, you know, throughout Africa. And like what I said, this is not going to be the first and the last we will continue to do even our fertilizer. By the time we finish listing, every single African will own part of our businesses and they will create, you know, pool of cash,” Dangote said.
He also said the group planned to take similar steps with its fertiliser business, with the aim of allowing more people to own stakes in its businesses.
The exchange has since circulated widely on social media.
Davido has previously spoken about his long-standing relationship with Dangote, describing the businessman as a family friend who has known him since birth.
Africa’s Largest IPO
