Denmark allows citizens of nine countries to enter the country without a visa if they hold qualifying biometric passports, although the exemption is part of the country’s existing immigration rules rather than a newly announced policy.

The countries are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine, according to the Danish Immigration Service’s official visa guidance.

Full list of the 9 countries

According to the Danish Immigration Service, citizens of the following countries qualify for visa-free entry when they meet the applicable biometric passport requirements.

Albania: Citizens holding qualifying biometric passports are exempt from the visa requirement.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Holders of biometric passports can enter Denmark without a visa.

Georgia: Biometric passport holders qualify, although the exemption does not cover diplomatic, service, official or special passports under the stated rules.

Kosovo: Citizens with biometric passports qualify for the exemption.

Moldova: Holders of biometric passports are exempt from the visa requirement.

Montenegro: Citizens holding qualifying biometric passports can travel without a visa.

North Macedonia: Biometric passport holders qualify for visa-free entry.

Serbia: Citizens with biometric passports are exempt, subject to the applicable exceptions.

Ukraine: Citizens holding biometric passports qualify for the exemption.

    What is a biometric passport?

A biometric passport, also known as an electronic passport or e-passport, contains an electronic chip holding information used to verify the travel document holder’s identity.

Such passports are used in international travel to support identity verification and strengthen document security.

For citizens of the nine countries, possessing the qualifying passport means they do not need to obtain a Danish short-stay visa before travelling, provided they meet the applicable entry requirements.
