The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked a fabricated video generated with artificial intelligence and falsely portraying the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, as making statements suggesting partisan political support.
In a press statement, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the video was fake and did not emanate from the Chief of Defence Staff.
The DHQ stated unequivocally that the statements attributed to the CDS in the video were false and should be completely disregarded.
According to the statement, the video was a product of AI-generated manipulation allegedly designed to deceive and mislead members of the public, misrepresent the position of the Chief of Defence Staff and bring the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution, committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation,” the statement said.
The Defence Headquarters strongly condemned what it described as the deliberate creation and circulation of the fake video, warning those responsible, as well as individuals knowingly amplifying the material, to desist forthwith.
Members of the public were urged to disregard the video and rely only on information released through official Defence Headquarters communication channels.
The DHQ listed its verified channels as its Facebook page, Defence Headquarters Nigeria; X handle, DHQNigeria; Instagram account, DefenceHQ; WhatsApp channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria; and YouTube channel, DefenceTV-Nigeria.
