Disu seeks stronger police-judiciary partnership on criminal justice reform

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Judiciary to strengthen criminal justice administration and uphold the rule of law.

Disu made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to enhance institutional cooperation between both arms of the justice system.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Okokon Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the IGP commended the Judiciary’s leadership for its commitment to judicial integrity, constitutional governance and the effective administration of justice.

He described the Police and the Judiciary as indispensable partners in the criminal justice system, stressing the need for sustained collaboration to improve the quality of investigations, strengthen prosecution support and ensure the timely dispensation of justice.

Disu also underscored the importance of effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and corresponding state laws in enhancing efficiency and reducing delays in criminal proceedings.

He highlighted the Force’s ongoing investments in forensic science, intelligence-led policing, digital investigation capabilities and other modern policing initiatives.

According to him, closer collaboration with the Judiciary, particularly in the deployment of technology and capacity-building programmes, would further strengthen the country’s criminal justice system.

The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to working closely with the Judiciary and other critical stakeholders to strengthen the rule of law, improve public confidence in the administration of justice and build a safer, more secure and just society.
