The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Kyenjojo District, Allan Bamuha, has commended local residents for successfully completing a comprehensive entrepreneurship and financial empowerment program aimed at improving household incomes and promoting sustainable development.
Speaking at the colorful event held at Rwakahira Play Grounds Kigarale Subcounty ,DRDC Bamuha described the event as a significant milestone for Kyenjojo District, highlighting the formation of three new Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOS) Abagambakamu SACCO, Tukole SACCO, and Honest Savings and Credit Organisation as a major achievement in strengthening community-based financial inclusion.
The program, implemented by Village Enterprise Uganda, provided startup capital to first-time entrepreneurs, equipping them with the financial resources needed to establish small businesses and create employment opportunities within their communities.
“Many people have innovative business ideas but lack the resources to bring them to life. This startup capital initiative opens doors for sustainable enterprises that can improve household incomes and transform livelihoods,” Bamuha said.
He urged beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly and invest in ventures capable of generating long-term economic benefits.
The participants also underwent extensive business and financial management training covering savings, record keeping, budgeting, and business planning. According to Bamuha, these skills are essential for ensuring that businesses not only survive but thrive in an increasingly competitive environment.
“Access to capital alone is not enough. Success requires knowledge, discipline, and proper financial management. The skills acquired through this training will help participants make informed decisions and grow profitable enterprises,” he noted.
The DRDC further praised the program’s focus on conservation and climate resilience, particularly for communities living near the renowned .
He emphasized the importance of balancing environmental protection with economic development through climate-smart agriculture, forest conservation, and sustainable business practices.
“Conservation and development must go hand in hand. By protecting our natural resources, we are securing the future of our children while creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods,” he said.
Bamuha also highlighted the value of the community mentorship component, which connects emerging entrepreneurs with experienced business owners for guidance and support. He noted that mentorship would play a critical role in ensuring the long-term success and resilience of the new enterprises.
He called upon residents to embrace hard work, integrity, innovation, and cooperation as key drivers of community transformation and economic growth.
The DRDC concluded by thanking Village Enterprise Uganda, local leaders, facilitators, mentors, and development partners for investing in the people of Kyenjojo.
“Together, we can build resilient families, thriving businesses, and a community that balances economic growth with environmental conservation,” he said.
The event ended with renewed optimism among participants, who expressed confidence that the skills, mentorship, and financial support received would help them improve their livelihoods and contribute to the socio-economic development of Kyenjojo District.
