The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed
this in a statement, saying the police had commenced an investigation into the incident.
According to him, upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, immediately ordered that the officers be transferred to the Command Headquarters.
He said the Commissioner also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
“The officers have since been detained and will be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary procedures in accordance with the outcome of the investigation,” Ukandu stated.
He added that the Command sympathised with the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, and assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, transparently and without bias.
Ukandu reiterated the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the fundamental rights of all citizens.
He said the Ebonyi State Police Command maintains a zero-tolerance policy against brutality and all forms of misconduct capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute, stressing that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with established regulations.
