The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned his position.
DAILY POST reports that he resigned at a brief plenary sitting which lasted less than 30 minutes on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Yekini Idaiye, who represents Akoko-Edo I Constituency, has been appointed the new Speaker of the House.
Some other leaders of the House were relieved of their duties.
Jonathan Ibhamawu, representing Esan West Constituency, was removed as the Majority Leader and replaced with Ojiezele Osezua Sunday, who represents Esan South-East Constituency.
The former deputy majority leader, Addeh Emankhu Isibor, representing Esan North-East 1, was replaced by Inegbeboh Ojie Eugene as the new deputy majority leader.
Natasha Osawaru Irobosa, representing Egor constituency of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, is now the minority leader, replacing Charity Iguodala, who represents Ovia North-East 1.
Recall that the former speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, who is represents Owan West Constituency, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in January 2025.
