It was a gathering of who is who at the Corpus Christi Cathedral in Port Harcourt as dignitaries from all walks of life gathered for the service of songs of late Dame Ezinne Mary Orduah Amaechi, mother of the Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in the 2027 general elections, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi.
Speaking gloriously about the late Ezinne, former governorship candidate in Rivers state, Dr. Peterside Dakuku described her as “a very kind and generous woman. I met mama in 1991, since then she took me as her own biological son. She was extraordinarily generous”.
For Senator Andrew Uchendu, the late Dame Ezinne was a dogged community leader. “A grass root mobiliser for any political party that her son, Amaechi, was a member. I met her about 27 years ago when I was chief executive officer in Risompalm. She was a very active community leader”, Uchendu said.
Dame Judith Amaechi saw her late mother in-law from “a very beautiful perspective”. She extoled that “mama gave me the best husband I am married to today”. Dame Judith relished some sweet memories she had with her late mother in-law which include her generosity, kindness and prayerfulness.
“I begged mama to stay until I enter Aso Rock. She refused. But I know she is going to somewhere more beautiful than where we are now”, the former First Lady of Rivers state said, adding that mama was a peaceful mother and always advised us to live an exemplary life”.
Giving a vote of thanks at the service, the chief mourner, Rotimi Amaechi expressed delight for the show of love exhibited by friends from across Nigeria and beyond party lines.
“Our church does not give pulpit to people to talk politics. But as a son of the late Dame Mary, that is why I am here holding this microphone”, he said.
The roll call of those who attended the service of songs on Friday include, the NDC Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, wife of ADC Presidential candidate, Titi Abubakar, PRP presidential candidate, Donald Duke, John Odigie Oyegun, former APC national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, former PDP national chairman, Dr. Chris Ngige, senator Liyel IMoke and senator Lee Maeba.
Others include the Editor of Vanguard newspapers, Mr Eze Anaba, Lauretta Onochie, former chairman of NDDC, Dr. Olurinmi Mamora, Dr Usani Uguru Usani, former minister, captains of industries, political bigwigs of various parties among others, were all in attendance.
