The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has congratulated the Chairman of the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics (AERE), Dele Oye, on his conferment with the 2026 Medal of Merit by the African Bar Association (AFBA).
Oye, the immediate past Chairman of the Organised Private Sector of Nigeria (OPSN) and former President of NACCIMA, received the award at the AFBA 2026 Annual Conference in Cape Verde.
In a congratulatory message, NACCIMA National President, Engr. Jani Ibrahim, said the association and its members identified with the recognition, describing it as a significant milestone in Oye’s career and service to the private sector.
Ibrahim said the award recognised Oye’s contributions to sustainable private-sector growth, professional excellence, the advancement of the legal profession, and the promotion of justice and good governance.
He said the honour was a testament to Oye’s contributions and the respect he had earned within Nigeria’s legal and business communities.
Ibrahim added that NACCIMA was proud to celebrate the achievement, noting that Oye’s recognition was also a source of pride for the business community.
He expressed confidence that the award would further strengthen Oye’s voice and influence in the legal profession, private sector and broader society.
The African Bar Association had described Oye as an accomplished legal practitioner, economic advocate and business leader with more than 35 years of professional experience in corporate governance, international trade facilitation, policy reform, dispute resolution and regulatory compliance.
According to AFBA, Oye was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 after obtaining his LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University. He also served for 13 years as Lead Prosecutor to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee and was a former member of the Body of Benchers.
Beyond legal practice, AFBA highlighted his involvement in regional trade and economic advocacy, including his tenure as Chairman of OPSN, Honorary Life Vice-President of NACCIMA and Chairman of the Nigerian-Türkiye Business Council.
He also served on the boards of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
The award was presented during AFBA’s 2026 Annual Conference, holding in Cape Verde from September 20 to 24.
The conference, which brings together legal professionals and other stakeholders from Africa and the diaspora, is themed, “Resilient Africa’s Roadmap for Sustainable Development: Addressing and Strengthening Issues of Military, Security and Economic Stability.”
AFBA President, High Chief Ibrahim Eddy Mark, said the conference was taking place at a critical period for Africa, stressing the need for stronger institutions, respect for the rule of law, improved security cooperation and sustainable economic development.
