ENTEBBE. Police have arrested three men accused of impersonating police officers and allegedly targeting foreign nationals in Entebbe Municipality using suspected forged security identification documents.
The suspects—identified as Osire John Pius, Girengero Pius and Emogu Julius—were arrested on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after allegedly entering an apartment in Division A, Entebbe Municipality, and presenting themselves as police officers on official duty.
According to police, the suspects entered the apartment between 3pm and 4pm and proceeded directly to a foreign investor, from whom they allegedly demanded a passport and an unspecified amount of money.
As the suspects questioned the complainant, a member of staff at the apartment alerted officers from the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit, who responded and arrested the trio at the scene.
A search reportedly recovered two suspected forged police warrant cards, which police believe may have been used to facilitate the alleged impersonation.
The suspects are currently being held at Entebbe Police Station and will be processed in accordance with the law.
Preliminary investigations have also linked the suspects to at least two earlier incidents involving foreign nationals in the Entebbe area.
Police said the group is suspected of robbing tourists in Manyago about two weeks ago, while another incident involving the alleged robbery of Indian nationals was reported in Kitooro last week.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly targeted foreign nationals in areas commonly frequented by tourists. They are accused of using suspected forged security identification documents to impersonate officers on official duty, gain the confidence of their victims and subsequently rob or extort them.
Police commended the vigilance of the apartment staff and the prompt intervention of officers from the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit, saying their actions led to the suspects’ arrest before further harm could occur.
Investigations into the alleged offences are ongoing.
