EPL: ‘He went missing, did nothing’ – Cascarino names who caused Man United’s defeat to Hull City

Daily Post about 4 hours 2 mins read

Former Chelsea player, Tony Cascarino has slammed Bruno Fernandes for his performance in Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Hull City in their first game of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

Manchester United were beaten by newly promoted Hull City, with goals from defenders Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy, both from set pieces.

Cascarino believes Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes went missing during the game, saying the Portugal international failed to fulfil his responsibilities on the field.

This came after Fernandes expressed concerns about his teammates’ lack of effort in the post-match mixed zone.

Cascarino told talkSPORT: “I use this as a bit of a joke when I say someone is out standing, like Bruno Fernandes yesterday. He was out standing; the problem is everyone else was out running. He wasn’t doing a thing.

“Bruno Fernandes is a player who I’ve always felt has so much quality, but when he goes missing, he really goes missing.

“They were dreadful. There’s no other way to put it. I’ve heard the terms pulverised and demolished. I think Manchester United fans have received a harsh reality check. I’m confident Michael Carrick will rectify things once they have players back, but that performance was concerning.”

The defeat against Hull City marked the first time in the club’s history that Manchester United had lost to a newly promoted team.

Despite dominating possession, the Red Devils struggled against the Tigers and failed to pose a threat in front of goal.

Manchester United will aim to recover in their next match when they face another newly promoted team, Ipswich Town, in their first home game of the season on Sunday.
