Manchester United board have identified two managers to replace Michael Carrick if they decide to part ways with the Englishman.
According to The Guardian, the two main candidates to succeed Carrick as head coach are Unai Emery and Julian Nagelsmann.
Man United have had their worst start to a season since 1986 following their 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League.
Carrick is under intense pressure at Old Trafford after the Red Devils failed to win a match in their last seven fixtures in all competitions.
Carrick is still expected to lead Man United in Sunday's home match against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
But Man United's loss to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday has intensified focus on finding a successor should Carrick be sacked.
Both Emery and Nagelsmann are admired by Man United board members.
Emery's contract with Aston Villa will expire in 2029, while Nagelsmann is currently unemployed after he left the German national team following Euro 2024.
